Charges Laid Against Former Chatham-Kent Police Officer
The former officer was released on conditions and is due back in court May 19 after the SIU said the alleged incidents occurred in 2009.
- On Tuesday, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit arrested former Chatham-Kent Police Service officer Kenneth Miller, who faces charges of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and breach of trust.
- The SIU launched an independent investigation after a woman reported alleged incidents from 2009 involving an on-duty constable when she was a minor; Miller resigned from the force in March 2018.
- Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino identified reasonable grounds to believe the former officer committed Criminal Code offences during the independent probe, as required by law.
- Miller must "refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected person," the watchdog said, while the Chatham-Kent Police Service acknowledged the "impact such matters can have" on survivors.
- As the matter is before the courts, the Chatham-Kent Police Service will not comment further, with Miller scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on May 19.
