Former PM Jean Chretien misses King Charles’ speech from the throne due to minor heart surgery
Former prime minister Jean Chrétien missed King Charles’s throne speech on Tuesday in Ottawa due to minor heart surgery.
Chrétien was hospitalized after experiencing discomfort caused by a blocked artery, which required stent insertion at the Ottawa Heart Institute.
The new Parliament was formally opened by the throne speech, marking the first time in almost five decades that a reigning British monarch delivered such a speech in Canada.
Chrétien’s adviser Eddie Goldenberg stated that after the procedure, Chrétien reported feeling well and expected to return home the following day.
At 91 years old, Chrétien continues to be engaged in political activities and is anticipated to resume his usual routine soon as he recovers.
