Former PDP chairman Bamanga Tukur dies at 90
Family sources said the former PDP chairman and businessman died after a prolonged illness, leaving 17 children and a long public service record.
- Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, a prominent Nigerian businessman and former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, died at age 90 on Saturday at his Abuja residence.
- Tukur began his public career as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982 before entering elective politics. He governed the defunct Gongola State during Nigeria's Second Republic.
- Beyond politics, Tukur served as Minister of Industries under General Sani Abacha and founded BHI Holdings, known as the DADDO Group. He received national honours including Commander of the Order of the Niger .
- Tukur served as PDP National Chairman from March 2012 until his January 2014 resignation following prolonged internal party disputes. He held the traditional title of Tafidan Adamawa throughout his career.
- Born on September 15, 1935, Tukur leaves behind a significant legacy spanning Nigerian public administration and international business. He is survived by 17 children, his wives, and grandchildren.
