Former NHS manager jailed for £123k fraud
Alec Gandy diverted £123,000 from a dissolved NHS trust to fund gambling and his businesses, with accomplices receiving non-custodial sentences, court heard.
- On January 16, Alec Gandy was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Wolverhampton Crown Court after admitting fraud by abuse of position; Judge Hobson called the offending "sophisticated".
- Over a 16-month span beginning in August 2022, Gandy created fictitious worker accounts using Matthew Lane and Kaylee Wright's details and authorised invoices for payment.
- Investigators traced payments of £92,268.99 to gambling firms and a £12,484.54 transfer to Cleobury Cloudz, where Gandy was sole director.
- Prosecutors and the judge warned the abuse of position harmed services and colleagues, and the CPS will pursue recovery of criminal benefits after Matthew Lane and Kaylee Wright pleaded guilty to money laundering.
- A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing is expected later this year to recover assets, after the Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust was dissolved and its services moved to regional NHS bodies.
