Former NBA star Lamar Odom expected to enter plea deal in Las Vegas DUI case
The plea would reduce Odom’s DUI charge to reckless driving as he avoids a bench trial, his attorney said.
Former NBA star Lamar Odom plans to enter a no-contest plea in his Las Vegas DUI case later this month, according to attorney Michael Becker, reducing the initial charge to reckless driving.
Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrested Odom on January 17 after observing him speeding on I-15, where he drove around 90 mph and briefly accelerated to 105 mph without signaling lane changes.
During the stop, the trooper noted Odom's "bloodshot, water eyes" and a "significant odor of Marijuana," while the arrest report alleges he claimed he was "poisoned at the brothel in Pahrump."
Although a bench trial was scheduled for Tuesday, the court continued the hearing to allow for the plea entry, though defense attorney Coburn noted the agreement is "not a done deal."
Odom, who played 14 NBA seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, previously received probation for a 2013 DUI arrest in Los Angeles and entered rehab following his recent arrest.
