Former Strictly Come Dancing Star Argues 2026 Shake-up Was "Needed" to Get Rid of "Dead Wood"
Jordan said the BBC series needed a refresh after several professionals were cut, and he said the changes could have gone further.
Earlier this year, Strictly Come Dancing confirmed that professional dancers Karen Hauer, Gorka Marquez, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas would not return for the upcoming series.
Former Strictly professional dancer James Jordan described the departures as getting rid of "dead wood," insisting the shake-up was "needed" to create opportunities for fresh talent.
Jordan suggested cuts could have extended to the judging panel, criticizing the show's "nicey-nicey" tone and noting that judge Craig Revel Horwood has toned down his critiques.
Following departures of hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman last year, Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe, and Josh Widdicombe will take over presenting duties for the BBC series this September.
James and Ian Waite are joining former Strictly professionals Brendan Cole, Pasha Kovalev, and Vincent Simone for the 30-date "Vegas: After Hours" dance tour, kicking off in Fareham on October 3.
