Former AJHL, BCHL broadcaster, front office exec charged with sex crimes against minors
RCMP say the former hockey broadcaster solicited players for intimate images and sexual videos, and investigators believe there may be more victims.
On Monday, Southern Alberta RCMP charged former hockey executive Tyler Robb King, 39, with luring minors, sexual exploitation, and child pornography following his arrest in Ontario on Friday after crossing from New York State.
The investigation began in June 2024 after an Okotoks Oilers Hockey Association employee reported that a former staffer was soliciting and compensating players for intimate images and sexual videos.
Alberta RCMP determined the investigation involves multiple victims from Alberta and Saskatchewan who were minor league hockey players, with the probe spanning more than two years.
The Okotoks Oilers stated they were unaware of allegations during King's tenure, while the BCHL's Clippers immediately terminated his employment upon learning of the accusations.
Police suggest there could be more than 25 potential instances of abuse, with advocate Greg Gilhooly noting that young athletes are vulnerable when adults hold power over their futures.
