Former aide to Herts MP avoids jail over child sex abuse images
Conor McGrath avoided jail after admitting 515 indecent images of children, and the judge cited his guilty plea, age and lack of previous convictions.
- On Friday, Conor McGrath, a former councillor and aide to Stevenage MP Kevin Bonavia, avoided jail after receiving a suspended sentence at St Albans Crown Court for making indecent images of children.
- McGrath pleaded guilty last month to making 515 indecent images between June 2024 and March 2025, including 77 category A images showing serious abuse that the Crown Prosecution Service said demonstrated his "sustained and unlawful sexual interest in children."
- Sarah Muncey, a colleague who also worked for Bonavia, reported concerns to the Metropolitan Police after McGrath confessed to receiving indecent photographs, prompting police to seize his devices on March 25 last year.
- Labour suspended McGrath immediately upon learning of the allegations, and Kevin Bonavia said he was "pleased" McGrath was sentenced for his "trully appalling crimes today."
- Judge Justice Mann imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, citing McGrath's guilty plea and lack of prior convictions, while ordering 150 hours of unpaid work and 25 days of rehabilitation activity.
