Twin Arizona Wildfires Destroy Grand Canyon Lodge, Burn Over 45,000 Acres
NORTH RIM OF GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, ARIZONA, JUL 13 – The Dragon Bravo Fire destroyed 50 to 80 structures, including the historic lodge, forcing evacuation and closing the North Rim for the 2025 season, officials said.
- On July 4, 2025, a lightning strike ignited the Dragon Bravo wildfire in Arizona, which rapidly spread and destroyed the historic lodge along with numerous other buildings on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
- The fire quickly expanded due to high temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds, leading to evacuations and a change from a controlled burn strategy to full firefighting efforts.
- Alongside the Dragon Bravo Fire burning about 5,000 acres, the White Sage Fire has scorched over 40,000 acres, forcing hundreds to evacuate nearby areas.
- Aramark, operator of the lodge, said they are "devastated by the loss" and grateful that all employees and guests were safely evacuated amid ongoing firefighting efforts.
- The fires led to the North Rim being closed to visitors for the 2025 season, while officials continue to evaluate the damage and oversee safety around hazardous areas such as the compromised water treatment facility.
