Ford Recalling 500M+ Broncos for Potential Fire Risk
Dealers will inspect 565,691 vehicles and add protective sheathing after Ford linked the defect to a wiring harness supplier in Mexico.
- Ford recalled 565,691 Ford Broncos and Bronco Raptors from model years 2021-2026 on Thursday, citing a wiring harness defect in the engine compartment that may short circuit and increase fire risk.
- Insufficient protection on the wiring harness, supplied by Versigent in Mexico, causes the defect, which can lead to exposed wires and short circuiting.
- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates around 1% of the recalled vehicles, or nearly 6,000 examples, have the defect; Ford reports no related accidents or injuries.
- Technicians will add "convolute sheathing with abrasion tape" to the engine compartment wiring harness free of charge, with owner notification letters arriving between August 24 and 28, 2026.
- Owners may verify if their vehicle is included by searching their VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting Ford customer service under recall campaign number 26V468.
