Ford recalling more than 741,00 vehicles because of park system issue
Ford said 1% of the vehicles may have the defect, and dealers will update software and replace damaged parts free of charge.
Ford is recalling 741,195 vehicles in the United States due to a transmission defect that can damage the parking system, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Affected models include the Ford Expedition, Explorer, F-150, Lincoln Aviator, and Navigator from model years 2018-2021, as the transmission parking pawl may engage while in motion.
The NHTSA reports Ford is aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries related to the issue, with two being emotional injury claims.
Ford dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module and replace damaged components for free, with interim letters mailing Aug. 3, 2026, and the remedy anticipated in April 2027.
Additional letters will be sent once the remedy becomes available, and owners may contact Ford customer service or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline for information.
