Ford warning Kuga PHEV owners not to charge their cars
- Ford has advised owners of the Kuga plug-in hybrid in Ireland to refrain from charging their vehicles until a forthcoming software update addresses battery-related problems.
- The warning follows reported battery thermal venting problems in a small number of vehicles globally, though no cases appeared in Ireland.
- Ford advises drivers to use only Auto EV mode and is working on a software update expected within 10 to 15 days to enhance battery anomaly detection.
- Ford stated that the update will improve the Battery Energy Control Module’s ability to identify separator damage and alert owners in advance of any thermal venting.
- Irish dealers offer free Kuga PHEV check-ups, and Ford is extending high-voltage component warranties to 10 years or 240,000 km as a precaution.
