Breaking: Panthers Acquire Goaltender From Western Powerhouse
Florida sent a 2028 third-round pick for the 26-year-old goalie as it tries to stabilize a net after Bobrovsky and Tarasov became free agents.
On Monday, the Florida Panthers acquired goaltender Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick.
General manager Bill Zito is reshaping the roster after an injury-decimated season, as current goalies Sergei Bobrovsky and Daniil Tarasov become unrestricted free agents Wednesday.
Schmid, 26, played 34 games for the Knights last season with 29 starts but remained third on the depth chart behind Carter Hart and Adin Hill.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound netminder played 10 career playoff games with the New Jersey Devils and represented Switzerland at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
This trade follows Florida's recent acquisitions of defenseman Radko Gudas and forward Garnet Hathaway, continuing a busy offseason after the team missed the playoffs.
