Flight Cancellations Surging Across These U.S. Airports This Summer: Report

UNITED STATES, JUL 17 – East Coast airports have seen cancellation rates rise by up to 274%, with Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport canceling nearly 6% of flights, data shows this summer travel season.

Summer flight cancellations nationwide are up about 29%, from 1.4% of flights being canceled in 2024 to 1.8% so far this season, according to a report by CBS News.In using data from flight tracker FlightAware, CBS News examined data from May 21 — the Wednesday before Memorial Day — through July 14, and compared the data in that timeframe to the same period last year, which is shifted by one day, as noted in the report.
