Wild Acquire Former Albany Devils Forward Blake Coleman From Calgary
The Flames added three draft picks and retained 50% of Coleman’s salary as the Wild landed a veteran forward and a defenseman.
On Thursday, the Minnesota Wild acquired forward Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta from the Calgary Flames, sending defenseman Jacob Middleton and three draft picks to Calgary.
The Flames have now traded four key veterans this year—Coleman, Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri, and MacKenzie Weegar—as part of a broader roster overhaul to acquire draft picks and prospects.
Coleman has one year remaining on his contract with a $4.9 million cap hit, 50% of which the Flames will retain, while Middleton enters the second year of a four-year deal.
Minnesota remained active on Thursday, re-signing defenseman Zach Bogosian to a $1.25 million deal and right winger Nick Foligno, while also signing Maxim Shabanov for $1.6 million for next season.
Middleton, who has logged 381 NHL games, provides a steady third-pairing presence, while Maatta joins the Wild as a 13-year veteran noted for his defensive play.
