The Port of San Francisco is embarking on a multiyear plan that aims to improve visitors' waterfront access. The former Alioto's restaurant building will be demolished in the plan’s first phase.

The San Francisco Port Commission officially received the Port's proposal to remake the very heart of Fisherman's Wharf into a more viable and attractive center of the world-famous tourist site. It involves bulldozing one famous restaurant, possibly rehabbing tow others, creating a new pedestrian plaza and making historic fishing boats the centerpiece.
