First responders injured during Idaho brush fire that forced residents to evacuate
Idaho State Police said several officers were injured as crews stopped the fire’s forward movement and evacuated residents from nearby neighborhoods.
Multiple structure fires and a fast-moving brush fire south of Mountain Home prompted mass evacuations on Tuesday night, with Idaho State Police dispatching emergency crews shortly before 7 p.m. to Smith Road and Hamilton Road in Elmore County.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office coordinated the response with multiple agencies assisting evacuations and traffic management, while first responders requested BLM assistance including one overhead engine and two fire engines.
Idaho State Police confirmed the fire's forward movement has been stopped and contained, though several law enforcement officers sustained injuries during response and resident injuries remain unconfirmed as of 11 p.m.
An 11:10 p.m. alert allowed most residents to return home except those on High Desert Drive, with displaced residents directed to the Elks Lodge for American Red Cross assistance and injured persons sent to the Marine building at 2255 E. Eighth North.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference at 9 a.m. Wednesday at its Mountain Home office to provide updates, with local fire departments continuing to handle the fire near city limits.
