Firefighters join B.C. public service job action amid mediated talks

On Oct. 22, 2025, BC Wildfire Service and B.C. Ministry of Forests members joined BCGEU picket lines as the union escalated job action amid talks.
Non-Binding mediation began on Saturday between the B.C. government and BCGEU with mediators Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers as the strike enters its eighth week.
More than 25,000 striking members of the BCGEU represent 34,000 public-service workers, with over 550 worksites across the province on picket lines.
The walkouts are disrupting hundreds of services, halting government ministries and squeezing liquor and cannabis supply, while the union said essential services remain in place and 94 active wildfires are 90 per cent under control.
The BCGEU represents more than 95,000 members in 550 bargaining units and members picketed a Vancouver liquor store on Oct. 10, 2025.
