Firefighters break into apartment after sleeping woman fails to notice smoke

Firefighters in Apeldoorn forced their way into an apartment early Sunday morning after smoke filled the unit while the resident remained asleep, Omroep Gelderland reported.Around 4:30 a.m., a smoke detector went off in the apartment complex on Hobbemalaan. Several neighbors noticed a strong smell of smoke and immediately called emergency services. Police and fire crews arrived at the scene within minutes.
