Fire Burning in Southeast Houston From Recycling Facility, Fire Now 3 Alarms
About 100 firefighters are battling burning trash and tires as crews assess air quality and no injuries or evacuations have been reported.
A large fire erupted Monday at a recycling facility in Houston's East End, prompting a major response from the Houston Fire Department.
Officials stated the blaze, reported near the intersection of Kellogg Street and Manchester Street, involves a large pile of burning trash, debris, and tires.
Houston Fire Department Chief Thomas Munoz said over 100 firefighters are on the scene, with authorities later upgrading the call to a 211 fire.
Working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and HAZMAT, emergency crews are monitoring air quality, though officials report no current environmental concerns.
No evacuations have been ordered, as the Houston Fire Department is monitoring the fire to ensure it does not spread beyond the tree line to nearby neighborhoods.
