Dhurandhar Production Designer Booked for Allegedly Using Hotel Meeting to Sexually Assault Assistant Art Director Who Trusted Him as Mentor
Police registered the case after a woman alleged sexual harassment, assault and wrongful confinement during a work meeting, and the accused has since secured bail.
Chandigarh Police booked production designer Saini S Johray on allegations of sexual harassment, physical assault, and wrongful confinement following a preliminary inquiry. The FIR was registered at Sector-17 station under sections 74, 79, 123 and 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a New Delhi resident filed a complaint on April 20.
The complainant was a Government College student when a faculty member forwarded her resume to the Dhurandhar production team. Johray introduced himself as her mentor and claimed to be a Delhi College of Art alumnus, building her trust before hiring her as Assistant Art Director on September 2, 2025.
At approximately 8:30 pm on September 10, 2025, at Taj Chandigarh, the complainant attended what she believed was a professional meeting but discovered she was alone with Johray. She alleged he pressured her into consuming alcohol containing wine and rum; she vomited repeatedly over the next 20 to 30 minutes.
The complainant alleged she was confined to the hotel room overnight despite repeated requests to leave, with Johray allegedly continuing inappropriate behavior while she remained in severe distress. Johray has since secured bail and remains out of custody without issuing any public response to the allegations.
Johray allegedly warned the complainant against disclosing their meeting, and subsequently filed counter-complaints against her that compounded her distress; the nature of those counter-complaints remains undisclosed. Investigation continues as Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, was produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios and released in December 2025.
