Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen has authorized the country's armed forces to purchase AMRAAM AIM-120D-3 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles from the United States, the Defense Ministry announced on Friday.
Finland Secures Cutting-Edge Air Defense
Finland is acquiring Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles from the U.S to enhance its air defense capabilities. The move aligns with the deployment of 64 F-35 fighter jets ordered from Lockheed Martin in 2022, with initial deliveries expected next year for bolstered protection against regional threats.
The first Finnish F-35 fighters will be put into service with the Air Force in the spring of 2026.
The Finnish military will receive a state-of-the-art version of the AMRAAM missiles, which will further enhance their interoperability with allies.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen has authorized the Armed Forces to purchase AIM-120D-3 missiles, compatible with the aforementioned F-35s, after the US Congress approved in September the sale of AMRAAM manufactured by Raytheon to Finland.
