I was born in 1940, in the middle of the war. On August 9, 1945, my grandfather, my younger brother and I were playing in the garden of our home in Togitsu Village (now Togitsu Town), where we had evacuated, about six kilometers from the hypocenter. We heard the sound of an airplane, and the moment we looked up at the sky, we saw a flash of light we had never seen before.
