Financing the defence: the quadrature of the circle

Without the support of the United States, Europeans will be in difficulty to protect Ukraine and discourage Russia from snacking on other pieces of the former Soviet empire. At a minimum, Europe will have to increase its military assets, and this will cost a lot. For France, the bill could be 2 or 3% of GDP. What are the possible solutions to finance this effort?
