Just over a week left and the current Slovenian football champions will officially start the new (European) season. Ljubljana's Olimpija will host the first match of the 1st qualifying round for the Champions League in Stožice on Tuesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. The return match in Almaty will be scheduled exactly a week later (July 15) at 8 p.m. local time.

The renovation of the grass surface of Ljubljana's Stožice football stadium has been completed, Mayor Zoran Janković confirmed at a press conference today. The surface is now being watered and prepared for Olimpija's first match in the Champions League qualifiers. Shakhtar Donetsk will also play European matches in Stožice, the European Football Association (Uefa) confirmed.
