FIA launches Audi investigation after Freddie Slater incident
The inquiry centers on a cooling fan left in the car and a brief FP1 run for 18-year-old debutant Freddie Slater.
On Friday, the FIA launched an investigation into the Audi F1 team following an unsafe release during the first practice session at the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix involving 18-year-old debutant Freddie Slater.
Stewards initiated the probe after a cooling fan was left in the sidepod of Slater's R26, forcing the teenager to return to the garage shortly after his session debut.
Separately, Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson were summoned by FIA stewards after a collision during the second practice session, which triggered a red flag and left debris on the track.
Verstappen criticized Lawson for "not very smart behaviour" during the clash, suggesting the Racing Bulls driver should act smarter while competing for his 2027 seat.
Racing Bulls has yet to confirm its 2027 driver lineup, with Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov all remaining in contention for the two available seats.
