Fever GM Amber Cox Defends Indiana Fans: Criticism 'Has No Basis in Reality'
On Saturday, Indiana Fever general manager Amber Cox defended the team's fanbase during end-of-season interviews, stating the "attacks on our fanbase have no basis in reality, and they need to stop."
A Game 2 incident Tuesday involving Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson sparked criticism of Indiana fans; the Fever's 94-83 playoff loss Thursday kept the fanbase debate alive.
Cox highlighted the Fever's global fanbase of 57 countries and all 50 states, with more than 35% attending from outside Indiana, and noted no fan has been removed for violating the WNBA Code of Conduct this season.
Contradicting the narrative, former Fever player Brianna Turner called Cox's statement "unequivocally false," while free agent Kelsey Mitchell said playing in Indiana is difficult due to fan interactions and hate in her direct messages.
Cox aims to keep the Fever's "Big Three"—All-Stars Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Mitchell—together this offseason, though questions remain about head coach Stephanie White's future and whether free agents will re-sign.
