Ferrari Complete First Laps Around Madring in an F1 Car
Charles Leclerc completed Ferrari’s first laps at the new Madring as the team used an allocated filming day to run up to 200 km, officials said.
On Thursday, Ferrari conducted a filming day at the new Madring Circuit in Madrid, where Charles Leclerc drove the SF-26 to prepare the track for its Formula 1 debut.
Situated around the IFEMA Exhibition Centre, the Madring Circuit holds a 10-year contract to host the Spanish Grand Prix, returning the race to Spain's capital after 45 years.
Featuring 22 corners, the 5.416km track includes "La Monumental" Turn 12, a 550m banked right-hander with a 24% gradient that Carlos Sainz described as "epic."
Using one of its allocated filming days, Scuderia Ferrari completed up to 200km in the SF-26 to "christen" the circuit, with Lewis Hamilton expected to drive later that day.
Ensuring the venue meets FIA homologation requirements, construction is advancing before the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for 11-13 September, marking Formula 1's return to the city.
