The Federal Government wants to introduce a tax on sugary beverages. Now it has become known that the planned tax may be extended, for example to fruit nectars or oat drinks. The project is controversial.
The health insurance reform also provides for the introduction of a tax on sugary beverages. How this is designed is still open. In two ministries there are different ideas in the design.
Lars Klingbeil's Ministry of Finance has presented key points for a sugar tax on beverages. Alcohol-free beer and fruit juices would also be affected. According to SPIEGEL information, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced resistance.
Soon many drinks could become significantly more expensive. The reason is the sugar tax, which could include more products than previously known.
