HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA, JUL 31 – The Airbus A330-900 carrying 275 people encountered significant turbulence causing injuries to 25 passengers and crew, with investigations underway by federal agencies.
- On July 31, 2025, a Delta Air Lines flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam encountered serious turbulence, sending 25 passengers to hospitals and diverting to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
- After about 40 minutes aloft, Delta Flight 56 climbed to 37,000 feet before meeting turbulence described as `significant`, part of several incidents this year, FAA said.
- Reaching 38,075 feet at 5:23 p.m., the Airbus A330-900 nosedived about 2,300 feet while beverage carts and bottles flew through the cabin, and passengers not wearing seat belts hit the ceiling and floor.
- Nine injured passengers were taken to Hennepin Healthcare after the Airbus A330-900 diverted and landed safely, and Delta said seven crew members were treated and released by Thursday afternoon.
