FDA Recalls Hand Soap Sold in 15 States Due to Risk of Bacteria
The FDA says the products may contain Pseudomonas and Serratia bacteria, which can cause infections in people with weakened immune systems.
- Intercon Chemical recently recalled 2,696 cases of six hand soap products across 15 states due to potential bacterial contamination, the Food and Drug Administration reported.
- Contamination with Pseudomonas and Serratia bacteria prompted the recall, as these pathogens can cause infections in the bloodstream, urinary tract, and respiratory system.
- Inventory lists show 1,040 cases of Summit Foaming Hand Soap and 693 cases of Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe among the recalled products.
- Wholesalers and one retailer across 15 states received the products. Consumers should stop using these items immediately to avoid potential health complications.
- Recently, the FDA assigned a Class Two risk level to the recall, meaning products "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences," though serious health events remain unlikely.
