The department will allow salt substitutes in bread, milk, condiments and other staple foods as part of an effort to reduce Americans' sodium consumption.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is introducing regulations that will allow food manufacturers to replace salt with other ingredients, including herbs and spices. The changes will apply to 139 product categories, including cheese, bread, chocolate, and prepared sauces.
