FCCPC Seals Ikeja Electric Office
FCCPC enforced metering compliance after Ikeja Electric left 19 residential units without power for over two years despite multiple warnings and a formal compliance deadline.
- On Thursday, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission sealed Ikeja Electric's facilities for violating consumer rights, led by Engr. Idayat Olorungbebe representing Mrs Bola Adeyinka.
- Ikeja Electric's refusal to comply with a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission resolution left the complainant without power for more than two and a half years.
- A directive required splitting the Maximum Demand account into 20 non-MD accounts, but Ikeja Electric failed to do so, leaving 19 residential units uninhabitable, the FCCPC said.
- The FCCPC said it invoked Sections 17, 18, 124, 150 and 155 of the FCCPA 2018 to enforce compliance after voluntary avenues failed.
- Engr. Idayat Olorungbebe said sealing was a measured step and the control room was exempted to avoid wider outages; the seal will remain until Ikeja Electric submits verifiable compliance with NERC and FCCPC directives.
