FBI releases new surveillance video of suspect who placed pipe bombs near DNC, RNC offices in DC

The FBI renewed a $500,000 reward and released enhanced footage showing the suspect’s movements near political committee offices before the 2021 Capitol riot.

  • On Wednesday, the FBI Washington Field posted updated surveillance video on X with higher-quality footage and renewed a $500,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
  • Authorities say the devices were planted on Jan. 5, 2021, the night before the Capitol riot, and discovered on Jan. 6, 2021, amid unrest near the DNC and RNC.
  • The FBI says the suspect is 5 feet and 7 inches tall, wore a grey hoodie and Nike sneakers, carried a backpack, and the devices used 1x8-inch pipes, kitchen timers and homemade black powder.
  • The device recoveries forced evacuation of the DNC, including Former Vice President Kamala Harris, as FBI warned bombs were "viable" and "could have seriously injured or killed innocent bystanders."
  • As the case remains unresolved, the FBI renewed its call for public tips as the pipe bombing case remains unsolved and more than 1,500 people have been charged in Capitol-riot prosecutions.
