FBI raids Contra Costa County tax assessor's office

Agents served three warrants and seized phones and laptops as the warrant cited allegations of wire fraud and other offenses, officials and reports said.

  • On Tuesday, FBI agents raided the Contra Costa County Assessor's Office and the homes of Contra Costa County Assessor Gus Kramer and Assistant County Assessor Vince Robb, executing warrants seeking evidence of wire fraud and "other offenses."
  • Robb won 68% of the vote in last week's election to succeed Kramer, who served 32 years and announced his retirement in December 2026.
  • Agents searched the office at 2530 Arnold Drive, Kramer's home on West Arlington Street, and Robb's residence on Temple Drive. Kramer told reporters, "Apparently, low people in high places are attempting to weaponize the FBI."
  • County employees were barred from entering the office during the operation, and the FBI has not identified whether Kramer, Robb, or anyone else is a target of the investigation.
  • The raids occur amid East Bay corruption probes; previous federal investigations into former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and former San Leandro City Councilmember Bryan Azevedo led to criminal indictments.
