Veltkamp Throws 5 TD Passes and Rogers Kicks 60-Yard FG to Help Florida Atlantic Beat Navy 38-30
Veltkamp completed 27 of 33 passes for 386 yards as FAU outgained Navy 428-393 and held on after a late rally.
On Saturday night, Florida Atlantic quarterback Caden Veltkamp threw five touchdown passes to lead the Owls past Navy 38-30 at Schnellenberger Field in Boca Raton, Fla.
The American Conference opener marked a significant milestone; the Owls defeated an Associated Press Top 25-ranked opponent for the first time in seven years.
Veltkamp completed 27 of 33 passes for 386 yards, while kicker Collin Rogers made a program-record 60-yard field goal at halftime to help build a 38-14 lead.
Navy scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including a 49-yard touchdown run by Jackson Gutierrez, but FAU recovered an onside kick to secure the victory.
FAU moves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Navy, now 0-1 in the American Conference, faces UAB on September 25.
