Back Surgery to Keep Lions RB Isiah Pacheco Out Much Longer
Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said Pacheco will miss a significant amount of time after surgery to remove a loose body pressing on a nerve.
Detroit Lions running back Isiah Pacheco underwent back surgery to remove a loose body pressing on a nerve, with head coach Dan Campbell saying he will miss "a significant amount of time." The 12-week recovery process could allow his return by early December.
Pacheco was already slated to miss Detroit's first four games after being placed on injured reserve Sept 1 with a back injury and MCL sprain both suffered during training camp. The complications forced the additional surgical intervention.
When healthy, Pacheco has produced 2,537 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns in 51 career games since Detroit signed him from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason to pair with star running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Left guard Christian Mahogany and right tackle Blake Miller were listed as non-participants on Monday's estimated practice report ahead of Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills, compounding Detroit's injury concerns.
Given the short Week, head coach Campbell indicated Miller has a better chance to play than Mahogany, while veteran Ben Bartch stands ready to fill in after his performance in the recent win over New Orleans.
