YEOVIL DISTRICT HOSPITAL, SOMERSET, JUL 24 – Daniel Gunter was convicted of murdering his two-week-old son who suffered multiple blunt force injuries at Yeovil District Hospital's special care baby unit, court heard.
- At Bristol Crown Court on July 24, the jury announced their verdict, convicting Daniel Gunter of murdering his two-week-old son.
- On March 5 last year, Brendon was found in his cot at Yeovil District Hospital, and post-mortem identified non-accidental blunt force head impacts, Charles Row KC said.
- Bristol Crown Court heard Gunter walked out for a cigarette after jurors were told of the `sheer brutality`, including multiple fractures, by prosecutor Charles Row KC.
- Sophie Staddon was cleared of causing the death; the judge remanded Gunter into custody saying `Daniel Gunter you have been found guilty of murder,`; Gunter faces sentencing later.
- Looking ahead, a Child Safeguarding Practice Review is underway with multiple agencies, and Ch Insp Nadine Partridge called Gunter's actions `evil`, with findings due this autumn.
