Jenrick: Farage would ‘crush’ Argentina over Falklands
Robert Jenrick said a Farage government would deploy the armed forces and sanctions to defend the Falkland Islands if Argentina moved against them.
Reform UK economic spokesman Robert Jenrick said at the party's Birmingham conference that Nigel Farage would "crush" Argentina with military force and economic sanctions if it moved against the Falkland Islands.
In a televised address on September 3, Argentine President Javier Milei claimed the islands, denying residents' right to self-determination and announcing sanctions against Sea Lion field companies and a military base in Tierra del Fuego.
President Donald Trump recently indicated he is reviewing Washington's long-standing support for British sovereignty, a policy option floated in an internal Pentagon email that reportedly emboldened Argentina's territorial pressure.
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting called the UK's commitment to the territory "absolute and unshakeable," while Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband reaffirmed the islanders' right to self-determination amid renewed pressure.
The 1982 war killed 649 Argentine troops and 255 British service personnel, a legacy that complicates current tensions. Argentina's status as an EU-Mercosur partner further strains the diplomatic landscape.
