Farage blames ‘hacking’ for disclosure of £5m gift
The Electoral Commission is reviewing a Conservative complaint as Reform says the £5 million was a personal security gift.
Reform leader Nigel Farage alleged a "serious computer-hacking case" caused the disclosure of a £5 million gift he accepted in 2024 from billionaire Christopher Harborne, claiming it was part of an "operation."
Farage described the £5 million donation from Thailand-based British billionaire Harborne as an unconditional gift for his personal security, noting that nobody else in modern politics lives with his level of constant threat.
Invoking House of Commons rules, The Conservatives referred Farage, the MP for Clacton, to the standards commissioner for failing to declare the gift, requiring new MPs to register benefits within 12 months prior to election.
While Farage stated he was "very unhappy" and would "give the lawyers a ring now" to explore legal options, Reform officials have provided no evidence the disclosure resulted from illegal activity.
Seizing control of former Tory and Labour heartlands in Suffolk and Essex, Farage celebrated sweeping election gains of more than 1,400 councillors last week while touting a "historic shift" in British politics.
