Centcom dispels alleged Iranian propaganda that three Americans killed in Kuwait
CENTCOM said all personnel were accounted for after Iranian media claimed missile and drone strikes in Kuwait killed three American service members.
On Sunday, U.S. Central Command rejected Iranian propaganda claiming three American service members died in Kuwait, stating "there are zero reports of U.S. service member deaths or injuries in the region."
The false claim emerged amid escalating regional hostilities, as Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched strikes against Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman over the weekend in retaliation for renewed U.S. bombing campaigns.
Fact-Checkers traced the viral image supporting Iran's claim to a 2019 oil facility fire in Saudi Arabia, while satellite imagery of the Kuwaiti base failed to match the scene depicted.
Although CENTCOM denied the Kuwaiti casualties, the Pentagon's official war death toll increased by one to 14 total on Monday, though officials did not clarify if this fatality occurred in Kuwait.
Following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement, both nations trade attacks, with Washington striking more than 300 targets inside Iran and Tehran retaliating against U.S. military bases.
