Report: Falcons Add Alex Van Pelt as QB Coach
Alex Van Pelt reunites with head coach Kevin Stefanski to develop quarterback Michael Penix Jr. after serving as offensive coordinator and senior offensive assistant in recent NFL roles.
- On Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons hired Alex Van Pelt, 55, as their quarterbacks coach; he was a senior offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams last season and New England’s offensive coordinator in 2024.
- Stefanski is rebuilding his coaching staff by reuniting with former Browns assistants, as earlier this month he added Tommy Reese and Bill Callahan. Stefanski said Van Pelt will help develop third-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
- His résumé includes playing 12 NFL seasons as a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, and coaching since 2006, starting with the Bills.
- Van Pelt will work directly with Michael Penix Jr., third-year Falcons quarterback, while the Falcons retained Jeff Ulbrich, Dave Huxtable, Nick Jones and Michael Pitre to preserve continuity.
- Stefanski previously parted ways with Van Pelt in 2023 after a 45-14 playoff loss to the Houston Texans, following Van Pelt's coaching stops with the Buccaneers, Packers and Bengals.
