Falconets Hold China To Draw, Keep U-20 World Cup Hopes Alive
Nigeria earned its first point after a VAR-overturned penalty and must beat New Caledonia to keep knockout hopes alive.
On Thursday, the Falconets drew 0-0 against China at the Arena Sosnowiec in Poland during their second Group F match of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, earning Nigeria their first point.
Spain currently leads Group F with six points after a 2-0 victory over Nigeria and a 5-0 rout of New Caledonia, while China holds second place with four points following their dominant display.
Nigeria appeared poised to break the deadlock in the 74th minute after being awarded a penalty, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review despite chances created by Janet Akekoromowei and Kafayat Mafisere.
Moses Aduku's side produced a disciplined performance to keep their knockout hopes alive, and they now face a must-win final group game against New Caledonia on Sunday, September 13.
A victory against New Caledonia would significantly strengthen the Falconets' chances of progressing, as they can still finish second in the group or qualify for the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
