Fairfax raises tax to unfreeze police position

Fairfax will increase its utility users tax by a percentage point, bringing it back to its original rate of 5%, in order to fill a police officer position. The Town Council voted 4-1 to raise the tax at its meeting on June 4. “This is a simple thing,” Councilmember Barbara Coler said. “I think it’s between 3 and 7 in the morning we have one police officer on, and it’s time to fill that position. I am completely supportive of going up to the 5%.”…
