Federal Appeals Court Upholds Block on Trump Birthright Citizenship
A federal appeals court in Massachusetts today upheld a block on President Trump’s executive order that seeks to strip babies born in the United States of their U.S. citizenship. The case is New Hampshire Indonesian Community Support v. Donald J. Trump.
In a new judicial setback for Donald Trump, the Federal Court of Appeals of Boston ruled that the government cannot deny citizenship by birth to children of people in the U.S. in an illegal or temporary situation. The decision, issued by a panel of three judges of the 1st Circuit, keeps the executive order signed by the president at the beginning of his term of office, which sought to stop automatic citizenship for these children, blocked.
