Exam Results: Improved Fife Results as National Passes up and Attaintment Gap Narrows
Pass rates rose across Scotland’s main qualifications as the gap between the richest and poorest pupils narrowed slightly, officials said.
On Tuesday, more than 148,000 pupils received results for 1.5 million exam papers, with initial analysis showing a positive picture across National 5 and Higher levels while the poverty attainment gap narrowed slightly.
Education Secretary Mairi McAllan described the results as "incredibly positive," noting the Scottish Government has invested £1.75 billion in the Scottish Attainment Challenge over the past decade, with up to £200 million invested this year.
Pass rates for National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher all saw an increase, reaching 79.2 per cent, 76.7 per cent, and 77.6 per cent respectively, while almost 270,000 students achieved a passing grade at National 5.
Pupils in Fife were among those receiving results delivered by Qualifications Scotland, with Fife Council executive director of education Donald Macleod encouraging those disappointed not to panic and citing available support services.
Although the proportion of pupils achieving an A rose to 40.3 per cent for National 5 and 20.9 per cent for Higher, the rate for Advanced Higher fell to 30.9 per cent, reflecting mixed performance across qualification levels.
