Ex-Winter Park community leader arrested in child sex sting
Investigators say Chambers exchanged sexually explicit messages for months and attempted to arrange meetings with someone he believed was 14.
- On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested 54-year-old Alan Chambers in Winter Park, Florida, on charges of soliciting a minor. Deputies allege Chambers sought to meet an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old boy.
- Chambers previously led Exodus International, an Orlando-based ministry that promoted so-called "conversion therapy" before shuttering in 2013. He gained national notoriety for claiming the organization could "cure" homosexuality, a practice critics described as harmful to the LGBTQ community.
- According to an arrest affidavit, Chambers communicated with the detective via Snapchat and Telegram between February and May of this year. Investigators claim he sent sexually explicit messages while repeatedly attempting to arrange a meetup with the person he believed was a teenager.
- Chambers remains in the Orange County Jail without bond facing charges of soliciting a minor and transmitting harmful material. The Park Avenue District board suspended Chambers from his volunteer leadership role pending further internal review following the arrest.
- Detectives stated they "stopped a predator before he had the chance to harm a child" and are investigating whether additional victims exist. The Sheriff's Office urged the public to contact the agency's non-emergency line at 407-836-4357 with relevant information.
