In a short press conference, given to journalists on the plane returning him to Rome, Pope Francis reiterated his message in favor of welcoming migrants, and against euthanasia.

Pope on euthanasia, abortion: ‘You don’t mess with life’

“You don’t mess with life…whether it’s a law that prohibits a child from growing in the womb” or euthanasia, the pope said, saying to care for someone in suffering and near death is “something human, human. It’s compassion.”

Pope Francis wanted to warn against “humanist euthanasia” and “ideological colonizations” that go “against human life.”

The pontiff reiterated his position concerning the bill, soon to be debated in France, on “active assistance in dying”. He assured that he had not raised the subject with Emmanuel Macron, contrary to what the Élysée said.
