Estonia's Candidate Not Selected for European Central Bank Vice President Role
Boris Vujcic, 61, nominated for ECB vice-president after guiding Croatia into the euro area and surpassing five candidates, ministers said.
- On Monday, eurozone finance ministers nominated Boris Vujcic, governor of the Croatian National Bank, as European Central Bank vice-president starting July 1.
- An economist by training, Vujcic has led the Croatian National Bank and beat five other candidates from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Portugal.
- Outgoing Governor of Eesti Pank Madis Müller was not selected for the ECB vice-presidency, and his term ends on June 6, 2026; Eesti Pank supervisory board chose Elo Kaasik to succeed him.
- Kyriakos Pierrakakis, head of the eurozone grouping of finance ministers, said the eurogroup endorsed Vujcic and EU’s 27 leaders must green light the nomination after consultations.

Outgoing Governor of Eesti Pank Madis Müller was not selected as vice president of the European Central Bank, after euro area finance ministers on Monday chose Boris Vujčić, head of Croatia's central bank.
The euro finance ministers have agreed on Boris Vujcic as vice-chief of the ECB. He is regarded as a stability-oriented monetary policy and could in future determine the course at the head of the ECB together with a German.

Croatian Boris Vujcic has been officially nominated for the role of Vice-President of the European Central Bank, after having received the support of finance ministers from the 21st states of the euro area. If the procedure is completed according to expectations, Vujcic will be transferred to Spanish Luis de Guindos starting on 1 June.
