Reports: Bobby Petrino to Become Bill Belichick’s OC at UNC

On December 22, 2025, ESPN confirmed the University of North Carolina is close to naming Bobby Petrino its offensive coordinator, joining Bill Belichick and Mike Lombardi to improve the offense.
After firing offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens earlier this month, North Carolina Tar Heels seek to fix an offense that ranked 131st in total offense in 2025.
His play-calling lifted Arkansas from 107th to 10th nationally in yards per game last year, and he served as Arkansas' interim head coach after Sam Pittman was fired, going 0-7 in that role.
If finalized, the hire would join Bill Belichick's staff and face immediate scrutiny, as Bobby Petrino was fired in 2012 after the University of Arkansas cited misleading officials about an extramarital affair.
Despite late losses, Arkansas Razorbacks closed the regular season ranked inside the top 25 in scoring , total offense and rushing .
